New Client Spotlight:

JA Frate

Please join us in welcoming new client JA Frate to our roster of satisfied CLI customers.  This Crystal Lake, IL-based logistics company was founded in 1971 out of a need for a dependable local carrier. Doug Jennings, founder of Jennings Air Frate, officially launched JA Frate in 1971, starting with only one truck. Doug's "Just Ask" service philosophy has made a strong impression on customers and fueled JA Frate's growth. "Just Ask" has also helped JA Frate sustain their customer base and increase the scope of business-to-business services.

What began as guaranteed regional local deliveries expanded to warehousing, container drayage services,  nationwide third-party logistics, and most recently international freight forwarding. Each and every one of JA Frate's employees is responsible for the respectable name reputation it has earned today as "The Most Dependable Transportation Service in the World."

Serving over 2,000 points within a 150 mile radius of Crystal Lake, JA Frate feels strongly about providing outstanding customer service and frequently and sensibly upgrading their technology.

Welcome JA Frate.

5 Benefits of Mobile Proof of Delivery Solutions

By Don Grust, President, Apacheta Corporation

Mobile proof of delivery applications provide end-to-end visibility into your trucking operations from the time your drivers leave the yard to when they return back at the end of the trip - all using next generation tablets, smartphones or handheld devices. These mobile applications replace manual paperwork or in-cab telematics offerings with robust solutions that integrate with electronic logging devices and Transportation Management Systems such as Carrier Logistics' FACTS.

Mobile proof of delivery (POD) solutions deliver many benefits by enabling transportation companies to:

  1.  Streamline your mobile fleet operations. With a fully automated, paperless system you will increase driver and route productivity, accelerate billing, and reduce overhead - making a direct impact on the bottom line. You can provide customers with electronic proof-of-delivery, offer better delivery tracking with barcode scanning, capture images of manifests for immediate upload and deliver condition reports with photo documentation to manage delivery exceptions and improve customer satisfaction. With real-time communication, you will be able to effectively track drivers and deliveries, and reduce the amount of time dispatchers spend messaging and calling drivers.
  2. Unbolt your drivers from the cab. POD solutions utilize mobile devices such as tablets, smartphones, and rugged mobile devices to manage mobile activities both inside and outside of the cab.  When leaving the cab, drivers can bring their device to inspect the vehicle, scan deliveries, take pictures and capture customer signatures.
  3. Gain end-to-end visibility into your supply chain. By connecting your POD solution to your transportation management system, you are able to automate your transportation and logistics from end-to-end, passing on real-time delivery status and billing information and collecting data to measure Key Performance Indicators.
  4. Increase driver safety while reducing costs. By integrating GPS navigation and electronic logging devices to your POD solution, you will improve driver safety with voice-guided, vehicle-specific route guidance and lower fuel costs with improved route efficiency. Mobile workflows will also ensure completion of DOT-compliant electronic hours of service logs and driver vehicle inspections to adhere to governmental regulations and corporate safety policies.
  5. Capture additional LTL-specific ROI. Going beyond straight proof of delivery, next generation mobile solutions manage the entire LTL workflow, including trailer swaps, team drivers and hot and cold equipment, as well as track ancillary charges such as packing fees, pallet breakdown charges, lumper fees, and other special services you may offer on-site.

Companies that implement mobile proof of delivery solutions are able to track their return on investment by measuring key performance indicators such as time spent on site, stops per day, and on-time deliveries. These companies also can track delivery status in real-time, by looking at a map to see exactly where drivers and the ETA to the customer locations - without distracting and time-consuming calls out to the driver. If you are considering implementing a mobile proof of delivery solution, be sure to select one that seamlessly integrates with your transportation management system and provides you the flexibility to address your business processes and utilize the device or devices that work best for your fleet.

Survey Says!: Take a Minute & Share Your Thoughts

Maintaining a real understanding our market is important to us. It assists us in ensuring we continue to develop products that are relevant to you and provide value. Earlier this year, we analyzed the social media habits of Transport Topics Top 100 for-hire carriers.  This month we are conducting another survey that looks at how important particular attributes are when choosing a third-party software provider.

Please take a few minutes to fill out the survey and be entered in a drawing to win an Amazon Gift Card.

The survey will take less than 5 minutes and will help us a great deal.

Thank you.

Help Desk Tip:  Keyboard Shortcuts

Did you know that by pressing the Alt key on your PC keyboard anywhere in FACTS, you can identify Alt key combinations? And an underlined letter signifies that an Alt key combination can be used in lieu of clicking on the word with your mouse.

Here's how it works:  In Shipment Entry, using Alt+H will automatically take you to the Shipment History tab. Alt+R will rate the shipment. Alt+N will print a delivery receipt. And so on.

This is just one more way (several, actually) for you to use FACTS without your fingers leaving the keyboard.
